A label like “INTJ,” “high openness,” or “creative problem solver” doesn’t tell you:
- what kind of environment you need,
- what trade‑offs you tolerate,
- which options you should refuse,
- what experiment to run next week.

Why tests often feel right but don’t help
Here are four common distortion points.
Distortion 1: Context drift
Your answers change across life stages.
The “you” who answered as a stressed student is not the same “you” who answers after two years of work—or after burnout—or during a confident season.
Tests rarely track which context produced the answer, so the output becomes unstable.
Distortion 2: Social expectation (“the person I should be”)
When a question asks, “Do you like leading?” many people answer with a value statement: “I should be confident, so yes.”
But real behavior might be: you lead when the mission is meaningful, and you avoid leading when politics takes over.

Distortion 3: Semantic mismatch
Words like “structured,” “ambitious,” “competitive,” “creative,” or “stable” do not mean the same thing to everyone.

Distortion 4: Output granularity is too coarse
Many tests output a set of traits. But what you need is a guide:

Traits without rails still leave you guessing.
What deep Q&A solves: not “who you are,” but “how you succeed”
A deep interview (human or AI-guided) asks for episodes and then follows up:
- What exactly happened?
- What did you do first?
- What felt easy vs heavy?
- What trade-off did you accept?
- What would you repeat?
- What would you never do again?
Over a few episodes, patterns become visible:
- which tasks reliably energize you,
- which environments reliably drain you,
- which roles amplify you,
- which roles reduce you.
That becomes decision rails and an experiment plan—something you can actually use.
How to tell whether a tool is “generic” or “locating you”
Here are three quick checks:
- Does it cite your concrete episodes?
Generic tools speak in universal phrases. A locating tool reflects your specifics without exposing private data. - Does it produce constraints, not just traits?
Good outputs say: “avoid X environment,” “you need Y feedback cadence,” “do Z type of work to learn fastest.” - Does it create a next step you can test?
If you can’t run a small experiment in 7–30 days, it’s probably still too abstract.
A simple 3-minute self-check (before any tool)
Write one paragraph for each:
- A moment you felt unusually effective
- A moment you felt drained and stuck
- A moment you felt proud of the process (not the outcome)
